Introducing: The Phenomenal Feet

It can be flexible enough to absorb shock, yet rigid enough to propel us forwards. Running long distances, hiking grueling mountains, skiing, walking barefoot—think of the sheer diversity in the activities we do, and how much we ask of our feet every day! Our feet are absolutely essential to our mobility and quality of life, and if you think of all we put it through, it's no wonder we all experience foot pain from time to time.

Did you know the foot has 26 bones? There's also 33 joints, and over a hundred muscles, ligaments, and tendons that all have to work together to achieve a seemingly-simple task: walking. This complex system is unfortunately subject to injury, which often lands us in search of solutions.

Our medial arch (there are also 2 others!) acts to provide shock absorption and stability to the foot. The ankle joint serves to absorb shock and uneven terrain, as well as permits us to move forwards smoothly. The soft tissues—tendons, ligaments, and muscles—operate the joints, and are the most at risk of overuse and painful injury.

It is our unique variations in anatomy, activity level, and other lifestyle factors that puts us at risk of developing injuries. Orthotics are often part of the solution when it comes to re-instating some support to our foot structure.
